~Practicing positive emotional and mental health
by Rev. Angie Swonger LPC

For positive emotional and mental health, here are a few interventions you may want to put into practice as you navigate these precarious times in history and ministry: Distraction | Emotional Release | Social Support | Self-Compassion | Soul-Care

~Ministry to Ministers

For many, ministry is hard right now. There are so many varied opinions and so much at stake for the sake of the Gospel. Last week the state ministries from IL, IN, W PA and OH came together to bring a powerful webinar to address some of the root causes of burn-out, discouragement, and even depression. If you missed or simply want to review this webinar with John Walker and Charity Byers from Blessings Ranch, you can download this RECORDING
Coaching Session Reports

COACHING SESSION REPORTS | As a part of leadership development, pastors are asked to complete the following report after each coaching session to share their learnings and goals.

COMPLETE REPORT

The Ohio General Assembly

The Ohio General Assembly consists of active and retired ministers of the Church of God as well as lay delegates that are selected by local churches. The General Assembly meets annually to worship together, make and confirm covenants, address the needs of the Church of God in the State of Ohio, and witness an ordination service for new ministers.

Credentials

Just entering the process or new to Ohio? Need Credentialing resources? You’ve come to the right place. We are here to help.

Regarding Same-Sex Marriage

Many churches are asking for resources in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding same-sex marriage. COGO has compiled some resources that we believe, while not exhaustive or complete, will be useful to churches and pastors throughout the state.

– Response from Dr. Jim Lyon, General Director, Church of God Ministries
– How the Church of God Speaks
– Considerations from CHOG Ministries – Legal Counsel, Steve Justice
– Sample Sermon from Steve Rennick, – Pastor at Church at the Crossing (Indianapolis, IN)

Regarding Women in Ministry

Since the earliest days of the Church of God Reformation Movement, women have been active and equal partners in evangelism, preaching, teaching, and prayer, affirming in practice what Paul declared in Galatians 3:26-28:

“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

From the beginning of our movement, within the Church of God it has never been an issue as to whether or not women belong in ministry or in the leadership of the local church. Our history is rich with women evangelists, pastors, Bible teachers and preachers. Ohio Ministries continues to affirm that God gifts both women and men for ministry in His Kingdom and encourages congregations to prayerfully consider both as they discern God’s will in their selection of a new pastor.

Hear from former Director of Ministries Randall Spence’s article on this topic.

By-Laws

The governing Bylaws of Ohio Ministries of the Church of God, adopted Sept. 24, 2009, and amended Oct. 23, 2020.
